Visit helps CHMS students learn more about aquaculture

Monday, August 15th 2016

AQUACULTURE is probably the fastest growing food-producing sector and now accounts for nearly 50 per cent of the world’s fish that is used for food. Unfortunately, impact and contribution of the industry remain unknown to most outside this industry, a press release stated.

In an effort to raise awareness about this industry in teenager minds, Golden Corporation recently welcomed a group of 90 students from Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) BSB and KB.

Upon arrival, the group was welcomed by the company’s Managing Director, Richard Chuang Hsi Shan, and taken on a first-hand tour of the facilities.

The objective of the school excursion was to bring young minds closer to fish farming and its impact on community.

The students visited the fully-equipped fish processing facility of Golden Corporation Sdn Bhd in Tutong.

They were given a glimpse of the dynamics involved in daily operation of Blue Shrimp.

The visit helped them have a basic understanding of the industry and will help them explore aquaculture’s growing role in food production and also the various aspects of sustainability to support local environment. It may encourage them to explore opportunities within this industry.

Golden Corporation staff helped the inquisitive minds with answers regarding the process of harvesting farm produce during their visit. They visited the hatchery, farms and processing plants operated by Golden Corporation Sdn Bhd.

Golden Corporation commenced operations in June 2012 and prides itself as the only fully-integrated producer of seafood products in Brunei.

It is also the first company to produce organic feed and breed organic blue shrimp.
