A Group of 12 students from the TinsulanondaFisheries College in Thailandhave completed a training course at Golden Corporation Sdn Bhd.

Tinsulanonda Fisheries College is the first fishery college under Vocational Education Commission and provides two main courses - Aquaculture and Fish Processing at both national certificate and diploma levels.

The 12 students already possesNational Diplomas in this field and have been undergoing 39 days of training at different section of the Golden Corporation Sdn Bhd.

Dubbed The Multi-Purpose Marine Resources Processing and Business Centre, the facility is a result of collaboration between Semaun Marine Resources SdnBhd and foreign direct investor Golden Corporation Sdn Bhd. Golden Corporation SdnBhd has operating at Serambangun industrial estate in Tutong where its principal business focuses on fish and shrimp.

Throughout the training course, the students were trained at a Brunei shrimp farm with regards to the cultivation, breeding and transportation (to ponds for maturation) of shrimp fry. The shrimp are carefully bred in the farm without the additions of antibiotics and chemicals.

These students are trained on the progress and processing of fish and surimi, where students were taught how to remove soluble proteins, lipids, pigments and odorous compounds from fish fresh and the re-processing steps, wash and rinse cycles.

The students also learned how to re-process the unmarketable fish that cannot be sold to consumers, resulting in it being turned into fishmeal and aquatic feed.

Apart from the shrimp farms and rawprocessing plant, the centre is also equipped with a laboratory where students learned how to conduct chemical and microbiological tests in order to ensure product quality meets international standards.

At the end of the training course, the Managing Director of Golden Corporation SdnBhd Mr. Richard Chuang Hsi Shan presented certificates of appreciation to all the Thai students.

This training course was initiated by the Director of Tinsulanonda Fisheries College of Thailand, Mr. WuttipongWongsuwan.

The Multi-Purpose Marine Resources Processing and Business Centre commenced operations in June 2012 and pride itself as the only fully-integrated producer of seafood products in Brunei. It is also the first company to produce organic feed and breed organic blue shrimp.
